Textual Aids

TEXTUAL AIDS are educational instruments, tools, or materials that are used in classrooms and workplaces that provide support and facilitate understanding of texts. These are most of the time graphical outlines or images that give the general idea. These textual aids simplify the comprehension of texts. As a teacher, using textual aids during discussion provides the students visuals that makes the lesson more interesting and understandable. It also aids in capturing their interest during the discussion.

PURPOSE OF TEXTUAL AIDS

1.  Provides learners with the opportunity to decide what parts of the text are important, and shows the relation of the ideas and concept in the text.

 2. Help the learners understand and comprehend any story subject or topic being discussed.

 3. Helps the learners clearly visualize how ideas are organized within a text or surrounding a concept.

 4. Provides the students with a structure for abstract ideas.

EFFECTS OF TEXTUAL AIDS

1. UNDERSTANDING THE TEXT

When the learners visualize the ideas or the concepts of the lesson being discussed, it facilitates retention and comprehension. Learners vary in different ways and using textual aids in lessons that need it will help the teacher deliver the lesson well and ensure comprehension.

2. PROMOTES CRITICAL THINKING

Textual aids promote critical thinking skills and encourage students to analyze what they can see. When we show the students these textual aids, they can interpret them the way they understand them. When the discussion comes, it will be easier for the teacher to explain the lesson because the students already have an idea of what the lesson is about.

3. FAMILIARITY WITH THE TOPIC

Textual aids, like graphs and charts, provide the students the visuals they need to be familiar with the topic. It helps them remember the lesson and the ideas that came along with it. In the long run, textual aids help retention.

4. ORGANIZATION OF IDEAS

Textual aids promote organization skills among students. The textual aids being        presented give them the outline to follow about the topic being discussed. For          students, being organized is particularly important since it helps them learn how      to prioritize activities. Having good organizational skills also makes it easier to          collaborate with others and helps increase productivity and efficiency
